Over twenty years ago Wilderness Safaris began searching for the
most beautiful wild untouched areas of Africa to establish camps where
travellers could be pampered as friends.
In Januar last year, this South African company was awarded eco-tourism's
"Oscar" for its philosophy, the Conservation International and National
Geographic Traveler's World Legacy Award. In the meantime a
multitude of Wilderness Camps have been established, we visited Jao Camp,
Kings Pool and the Mombo Camp in Botswana.
The Kruger National Park is legendary for big game watching - observing
animals in the wild in their untouched habitat. The Sabi Sabi Private
Game Reserve has been one of the most fascinating areas of the
heritage rich National Park. Moreover, Sabi Sabi accommodation is as
diverse as nature itself. In the eight suites of the Selati Camp one can
lap up the atmosphere of past times.
Contemporary design is the principle
feature of the twenty-five suites of Bush Lodge, and Earth Lodge, which
has thirteen suites, was featured by Condé Nast as one of the best new hot
spots of the world in 2002.
We briefly introduced the Al Maha Desert Resort when it was
launched in 1999. Over the years this hideaway has developed from being a
purely desert resort into a green oasis to which a spa has now been added,
so we sent our team once again into the vast ocean of sand close to the
Hajar Mountains - to experience by ourselves the hotel's new slogan, "A
dream transformed".
